The Senior Center was named after one of
the Pyramid Lake Paiute Leaders ‘Numaga’, which translated
to English means ‘Give Food’. The Numaga Senior Program provides
services to the Elder population (60 years and over) residing within the
Pyramid Lake Paiute Reservation.
The Program Goals are as follows: 1) To provide one daily nutritious meal;
2) To provide transportation for meals, shopping, and special activities;
and 3) To collaborate with other supportive agencies.
Meals: The Numaga Senior Center is located in Nixon where all meals are
prepared Monday through Friday for congregate and homebound deliveries.
Homebound deliveries are made to the three communities Wadsworth, Nixon,
and Sutcliffe. Vehicles average 3,200 miles per month to provide meal
services. Congregate meals are served at 11:30 a.m.; a $1.00 donation
is recommended for a meal served to any elder.
Transportation: Transportation is available to the congregate site for
scheduled meals; to Reno (47 miles) to shop for groceries and personal
items; to special planned activities; and for Emergency Food Assistance.
Supportive Agencies: To ensure that quality services are provided, the
Numaga Staff works closely with other Tribal programs. These programs
include the Pyramid Lake Health Clinic, Social Services, Housing Authority,
Senior Emergency Fund, Parks and Recreation, Cultural Center, Language
Program, Pyramid Lake High School, Law Enforcement, and the Caregiver
Support Program. Collaborative efforts are also made with the State of
Nevada, Department of Aging and other Senior Programs in the surrounding
area.
Funding support is provided by DHHS/Administration on Aging, Title VI,
Part A; State of Nevada, Division for Aging Services; Regional Transportation
Commission-Washoe County; Nevada State Section 18 Transportation Program
and the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe.
