Hi, I am doing some research for my girlfriend. Her name is Mary and has a 4 year old son. Her mother is a member of the Paiute tribe. Mary has not seen her mother since the age of 4-5 and she is now 27. it was last thought her mother was still living on the reservation. Mary and I think her mother was made to leave by family members on the other side. What information from me do you need to help me find her mother. Thanks so much for your help Joe

I am a Political Science student at Portland State University and I am currently taking a 1800's womens history class. I have chosen to focus my research this term on Sarah Winnemucca and additionally, the political lives of Paiute Women who had passion to contribute in some way to the larger society outside of themselves. I think it would be really interesting to find out about what motivated Winnemucca to go down the path she chose in life. Perhaps the influence of her family or traditions and stories she might have heard were particuliar influences? She obviously believed that she could, as a woman, make a difference. Do you have any ideas for me??

My father Luis D. Brown, Sr, is an enrolled member of the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe. His mother's name is Janice (Sampson) Brown and his grandfather was Dewey Sampson. I have tried contacting the tribal enrollment office for Pyramid Lake for information on a family tree or relatives I may have and I have had no luck so far. My father went to a boarding school when he was bery young and has not had contact with his maternal realtives in decades. I now have my own son and would like to be able to give him more information about our family's heritage. If any one has any tips or ideas how to go about doing so, please email me at the address given. Thank you, Tomee Brown

None of your photos show the hordes of RV campers and powerboats that have slowly taken over the western shore of this lake. Cold fall and winter days are the only times you can re-experience the solitude this place once offered. Chalk up another victory for endless population growth and superficial motorized culture. And the very existence of this site will draw even more crowds. If any other species behaved like Man we'd call it a plague.

I'm an enrolled member of the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe. I grew up off the rez in Montana and am wondering if there is a way I can get connected with my tribe, roots, and current affairs. Is there a tribal newspaper?? Some method of including those who live off the reservation?? I'm also interested in the tribe's environmental department and what they are currently involved in. I have a B.S. in Resource Conservation and would like help my people, offer technical advise or insight. Are there committees, organizations, voting, or some method of participation for members like me? Thanks and I love the new website, it's beautiful. Peace.

I ALSO DID A BOOK REPORT ON THE PIAUTE NATIVE AMERICAN TRIBE WHICH I EARNED A GRADE OF AN A ON. MY FATHER ALSO HAD THE PLEASURE OF BECOMING FRIENDS WITH WARREN TOBY AND WARREN TOBY JUNIOR (BOTH OF WHOM HAPPENED TO BE OFFICERS OF THE PIAUTE TRIBAL POLICE DEPARTMENT) IN HIS TRAVELS TO PYRAMID LAKE, HE HAS BEEN TRAVELING TO PYRAMID LAKE SINCE HE WAS ABOUT 2O YEARS OLD HE JUST TURNED 58 ON OCTOBER 15 2004. I HOPE YOU CAN SEE FROM THE EXCERPT OF MY PERSONAL WRITING THAT MY FAMILY HAS HAD PLEASUREABLE EXPERIENCES AND SPENT A GOOD AMOUNT OF TIME ON YOUR LAND. MY FAMILY HAPPENS TO BE OF THE WHITE RACE AND I CAN'T FOR AN INKLING OF A SECOND FIGUR OUT FOR THE LIFE OF ME WHY MY ANCESTORS WOULD TRY TO TAKE YOUR LAND FROM YOU THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND AND NO ONE CAN TAKE THIS LAND FROM YOU.I HOPE I HAVE ADDED A HEART TO THE CAUSE OF THE PIAUTE NATIVE AMERICAN TRIBE AND I DO THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME SOME EDUCATION TO YOUR HISTORY. The man who stood silently, patiently, in the lengthening shadows at the water's edge was in no manner physically remarkable except, perhaps, for his eyes. There was a singular keenness about them, imbuing a quick and penetrating gaze that belied the passivity of his pose. As always, they missed little of his surroundings and nothing that moved. These were the eyes of Puckinwah, war chief of the Shawnee Nation

As soon as I saw the pictures of the lake on the Internet, I had to make plans to see it in person. In 2001 I drove across the USA by myself in my small car. I went to Pyramid Lake and pitched my tent right on the shore for almost a week. It is beautiful there! So quiet and peaceful. Someday I hope to visit again.
